Fuel filters

Diesel fuel filtration and water-separator enquiries for heavy equipment and generators.

Fitment guide

How to choose fuel filters

Identify whether the application uses a primary separator, secondary fuel element or a combination unit. Share a photo of any drain bowl or water sensor with the original number.

Details to include in your request

  • Old filter number and equipment make, model and serial number
  • Photos of the element and the label
  • Required quantity, destination and service date

Primary separators and secondary fuel filters

Start by identifying where the element sits in the fuel system. A diesel installation may have an upstream fuel-water separator and a secondary filter nearer the engine. A maintenance kit can include more than one fuel element. List each part number and mounting position separately so the quote covers the intended parts.

A separator enquiry should identify whether you need the replaceable element, a bowl or seal, or the whole assembly. Photograph any drain or electrical sensor connection and state whether the old bowl is intended to be reused. Use the equipment documentation to verify the required components.

How to check fuel-filter compatibility

Send the engine model, engine serial and original filter number. If the old number is unreadable, provide the housing label and photographs of the mounting face and fittings. Visible shape can help narrow a search, but fuel filtration performance and sealing requirements still need to match the specified application.

Keep the engine and generator-set references separate if ordering for standby power. The set label identifies the overall unit. The engine and fitted fuel assembly are more relevant when two generator sets use different components despite having a similar output rating.

Prepare orders for fleets and standby power

Create one row per filter reference, state the quantity and identify the equipment using it. Mark whether the part is needed for a breakdown, a scheduled service or spares. If several machines use the same confirmed reference, consolidate the purchase quantity while keeping the asset list in your service record.

When the quote offers an alternative, confirm the replacement reference, whether any bowl or seal is included and whether a separate secondary element is required. Add the delivery area and required date so the team can confirm dispatch options alongside availability.

Example workshop enquiry

A generator service request says it needs two diesel filters. The technician identifies one as a separator element with a reusable bowl and the other as the secondary filter. The purchase list gives each its own number, then asks whether the separator seal needs to be quoted separately.

Should I order a separator element or an entire assembly?

Confirm the scope of the service. Send the housing and element references and identify whether the bowl, drain, seals or mounting head are also required.

What should I send for a fuel-water separator?

Send the element number and a photo of the bowl, drain and sensor connection if present.
